Healadin 101; The spells

So, last class we covered the very basics of healing. Today we will cover the basic spells in a healadins reprtoire. (Note. the links in this post are all intended to go to Wowhead. However, blogs do tend to be a target of phishers, so as always, check the destination before you click a link.)

First off, you’ve got the big guy. Holy Light. This is the heavy hitter that kind of defines a holy paladin. This thing hits like a truck. The tooltip says rank 13 hits for 4k-5k. But throw in your bonus SP, your looking at a heal that hits for 10-15k in all reality. My non crits hit for an average of 12-13k and my crits have hit for as high as 18k. You can heal a dpser from “omghelp” to full in a isngle hit. However, this thing chews up alot of mana and has a pretty long cast time if you don’t have a good amount of haste. That’s why HL-healadins prefer stacking Int (I’ve covered the concept of HL vs Flash builds before, but I’ll cover it again a bit more in depth later in my healadin 101 series). Without a very large mana pool, Holy Light is not the kind of spell you want to be spamming. Even with a large pool, HL isn’t designed to be spammed. It’s purpose is to drop a lot of points into a green bar in a short time (compared to other classes).

Healadin 101; part 1

Good morning everyone, quiet down, let’s get this started. Now, I am professor Llothan, this is healadin 101. Hopefully you are all here because you want to learn how to be an awesome healer or because you have a paladin friend who needs some help but has not the resources to do the research on their own. If you’re taking this as an elective or just trying to fill credits, get out.

Well, now that the rabble have left, let’s start with some basics shall we?

LFG?

Ok, I’ve been slacking off this week, I know. I’m in love with the new LFG system. Yes, I promised all you nubs a beginners guide to being a winadin healer. It’s coming, I swears. My warrior has been Pugging his heart out, and is only 20 random people away from a new pet. He is also only a few badges away from his 6th piece of t9 (3/5 tank 2/5 dps currently) so that he will have his tank 4piece bonus. Yummy shield block. He also got the first Quel’Delar in the guild :D .

My paladin got his 2nd 245 ring, and he already had all the t9 gear he needed, so i admittedly have not been running dungeons as much with him, except when he needs to go get his two frost badges a day. We tried ICC10 last night…….OW-Fucking-OW. Marrowgar was not nice. We needs to gears moar.

3.3 crits log-in servers.

Surprised? I’m not.

Anyways, I guess I can work on my first healadin 101 post while the realms are down. Check back in a bit, unless the issue miraculously gets fixed between now and when I eat dinner.

EDIT: Well, my realm is back up, and we ran Forge of Souls, I got some new cool healadin boots…then the instance servers crashed.

Healadin 101: an Intro.

So, after finishing off ToC10 for the first time ever, we finished our weekend by bringing in some new faces for an Ulduar run on Sat/Sun nights. V.V

Admittedly, I suck at tanking Razorscale. We wiped on the old bitch 4 times, mostly because I and my pali co-tank kept getting overwhelmed with adds (idiot on turrets and overeager dps dont help). At our best, we can get upto Thorim and Hodir easily, but we still struggle with Freya and have only tried Mimi once. This weekend we got down FL, XT, Razor, Kolo and Auriaya. 5 bosses compared to our usual 9. Bleh.

So, one of our issues (not including Razorscale, because that fight the healers were not the problem) was bad heals. Saturday was fine. We had our bo0mkin hero healing and our usual Shamy-raid healer on…well…raid heals. But we had a new healadin come in. First off his spec was messy. It was all over the place. My spec-OCD kicked in, and anytime I see more than 55-56 points in a single tree I get woozy. This thing was 63/8/0. BLEH. To make it worse, in the first tier, he put 5 points into ImprovedSealsofDPS, and 0 points in YouCanHitMeButMyHealWillStillGetOff. /facepalm. His Recount(tm) activity sheet looked like this: Holy Light: <10, Flash of Light: 2. That was it. A two-button healer, and only like 12 casts total. Sunday we had failadin and two other totally different healers and the only boss we got was Auriaya. Everyone else just roflstomped us for 2 hours.

Anyways, as a very confident healadin, I have made it my mission to help him. So, as I go through the process of crafting him into a winadin instead of a failadin, I will be posting several entries in a “Healadin 101″ format, to help all aspiring winadins out there on the intertoobs.

Anewb’Arak

So, I didn’t have time to post this yesterday, with a long day at work and a raid immediately upon getting home…but we one shotted Anub on friday night. Our first time ever getting to him, and we one shotted him. What makes this even more amazing was we had a very different group than usual. Our healers consisted of our usual raid healer, our GM turned disc priest (he still heals like a holy priest and it scares me) and a new healadin (i was on my warrior). We had some healer issues early on, but by the time we got to twins everything was clicking well. We also had two new dpsers, a warlock and a fury warrior (not me). One of the funniest moments we as a group have ever experienced came during our first attempt at Faction Chumps. First off, we had a bunch of new FC’s we had never seen before: holy priest, mage, rogue, enhance shaman. For three weeks in a row we had gotten the resto shaman, tree, Spriest, warlock, warrior and retadin. We still had the tree and warlock. So, our fury warrior and I were assigned to kite the rogue/shaman respectively. So fury (as he shall here be known) was in his tank set/spec. The plan was that I was going to charge in, intimidating shout, then pick up the shaman. Meanwhile our rogue would b ready to stun lock the Priest preventing him from running so the rest of the group could burn him donw. Fury was standing next to me before the pull. So, people say in vent and type out “Fury, come over to us.” “Fury come here” “Fury?” “Furyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy” Then suddenly out of no where he just runs forward, right into the middle of the FC. No one else moved….we were all too surprised to. LOL, so we all stood there for about 5 seconds, then I charged in and feared. It was hilarious. We were all laughing our butts off.

Anyways…screenie.

Avoiding the Body By WoW

So, this is obviously a common topic of discussion amongst gamers and non-gamers alike. How do you keep yourself (or your loved ones) healthy while allowing you/them to enjoy their hobby of choice. Alot of people blame video games for the high rates of Obesity in America. Well, it’s not the games fault. It’s the lifestyle that most gamers choose to live while being a gamer. Yes yes, I know, alot of people who game are more than capable of remaining in very good physical shape and keeping a healthy social life as well.

my UI

So, like playing with my UI. it’s something that has never felt really perfect to me, and there is always something about my UI of the moment that irks me. I’ve gone through the default UI, I’v done the custom UI with bartender and a host of other adds. I’ve tried SpartanUI (the one i have liked the msot so far), back to default, back to custom. Now I’ve changed it again. I like the current iteration, but there are a few things I don’t like. First, the Screenie (warning: this post has alot of screenshots, if you don’t like the kind of books that have pictures, which are my personal favorites, go away!)
